Ortaokul Sosyal Bilgiler Öğretiminde Güncel Olayların Uygulanmasına İlişkin Öğretmen ve Öğrenci Deneyimleri

Abstract

Araştırmanın amacı ortaokul sosyal bilgiler dersinde güncel olayların uygulanmasına ilişkin öğretmen ve öğrenci deneyimlerini değerlendirmektir. Araştırma nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden olgu bilim desenine göre yürütülmüştür. Araştırmanın çalışma grubu ölçüt örnekleme göre seçilen Gaziantep ve Hatay illerindeki 8 sosyal bilgiler öğretmeninden ve bu öğretmenlerin derslerine girdiği 5., 6. ve 7. sınıfa devam eden 15 öğrenciden oluşmuştur. Araştırmanın verileri yarı yapılandırılmış görüşme formu aracılığıyla 2017 Kasım ve Aralık aylarında toplanmıştır ve betimsel analiz tekniğine göre bulgulara dönüştürülmüştür. Verilerin analizi sonucunda çoğunlukla sosyal bilgiler ders konularıyla ilişkili güncel olayların işlendiği anlaşılmaktadır. Güncel olayların dersi anlaşılır kılmak, geçmiş ve bugün arasında bağlantı kurmak, dikkat çekmek, kavrama düzeyini artırmak, etkin vatandaş yetiştirmek, ilgiyi artırmak, yaşamı sorgulatmak, konuyu somutlaştırmak, öğrenme düzeyini arttırmak, bilginin kalıcılığını sağlamak, günlük yaşamla ilişkilendirmek gibi çok çeşitli amaçlarla kullanıldığı; seçiminde ise öğrenci özelliklerinin, ders içeriğinin, olayın öneminin, kazanımların, ilgi ve merak uyandırıcılığının, dikkat çekiciliğinin, aktif katılımı desteklemesinin ve geçmişe atıf yapılabilmesinin etkili faktörler olduğu görülmektedir. Sosyal bilgiler derslerinde güncel olayların uygulanışında çoğunlukla soru-cevap ve tartışma yöntemlerinden yararlanılmakta, özellikle gazete ve internet güncel olay kaynağı olarak kullanılmaktadır. Güncel olayların kullanılmasıyla da öğrencilerin derse katıldıkları, ilgilerinin arttığı, dersi kolay anladıkları, bilgilerinin kalıcı hale geldiği, bilişsel ve duyuşsal davranış kazanabildikleri ifade edilmektedir.

The aim of the research is to investigate the experiences of teachers and students on the application of current events in secondary school social studies course. The research was carried out according to the case study design among qualitative research methods. The participants of the study consisted of 8 social studies teachers in Gaziantep and Hatay, selected according to criterion sampling, and 15 students attending to the 5th, 6th and 7th grades of these teachers. The data of the study were collected in November and December 2017 through the semi-structured interview form and were converted into findings according to the descriptive analysis technique. As a result of the data analysis, it is understood that the current events mostly related to social studies course subjects are used. Current events are used for a variety of purposes such as making the course clear, linking the past and present, attracting attention, raising the level of understanding, cultivating effective citizens, increasing interest, questioning life, embodying the concept, increasing the level of learning. Moreover, In the selection of the current events, it is seen that the student's characteristics, the course content, the importance of the event, the achievements, interest and curiosity, the attention attractiveness, supporting active participation and referring to the past are effective factors. Questionnaire and discussion methods are mostly used in the application of current events in social studies lessons, especially newspapers and internet are used as current event sources. With the use of current events, it is stated that the students participate in the lesson, their interest in the lesson increases, understand the lesson easily, their knowledge becomes permanent, and gain cognitive and affective behavior.
