Determination of Quality of Life After Renal Transplantation

Abstract

OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study was to investigate the factors that may affect the quality of life in patients undergoing renal transplantation. MATERIAL and METHODS: The target population of the study consisted of 80 renal transplant patients that were followed up at the Nephrology Transplantation Policlinic of the Health Practice and Research Hospital of Sutcuimam University between January 2015 and April 2015. The data were gathered via face-to-face interview method by the researcher from 46 patients who accepted to participate in the study. The Question Forms used were the Patient Information Form and SF-36 Quality of Life Scale. The Mann-Whitney U and Kruskal-Wallis H and Paired Samples T test were used for statistical analysis. RESULTS: A significant relationship was detected between the quality of life and parameters such as Body Mass Index (BMI), gender, having children, educational status, tissue rejection and undergoing dialysis (p<0.005). CONCLUSION: We observed that the patients had limitations in some quality of life sub-dimensions. It would be beneficial to provide the necessary social support and rehabilitation in the quality of life sub-dimensions that the patients had limitation with and to perform multi-center studies with more subjects.
