Bir eğitim ve araştırma hastanesinde çalışan hemşirelerin flebit konusundaki bilgi ve tutumları

Abstract

Amaç: Bu çalışmanın amacı, bir eğitim ve araştırma hastanesinde çalışan hemşirelerin periferik intravenöz kateter (PİK) uygulamalarına bağlı olarak gelişen flebit hakkındaki bilgi ve tutumlarının belirlenmesidir. Gereç ve Yöntemler: Araştırmacılar tarafından hazırlanan soru formu kullanılarak, en az bir yıldır hastanede çalışan 269 (% 77) gönüllü hemşire ile yapılan tanımlayıcı ve kesitsel tipte bir araştırmadır. Çalışma verileri 1-30 Nisan 2012 tarihleri arasında toplanmıştır. Soru formu hemşirelerin tanıtıcı bilgileri ve güncel rehberlere göre flebit bilgisi ve tutumu sorularından oluşmuştur. İstatistiksel analiz için SPSS for Windows 15.0 programı kullanılmış ve istatistiksel anlamlılık düzeyi olarak p0,05 değeri alınmıştır. Bulgular: Hemşirelerin ortanca yaş değeri 32 (26-36) yıl, toplam hemşirelik süresi ortanca değeri 11 (4-16) yıl olup, hemşirelerin %77,3ü lisans mezunudur. Hemşirelerin %76,2si flebit konusundaki bilgilerini okuldan aldığını, %25i aldığı eğitimi yetersiz bulduğunu ve %70,3ü eğitim almak istediğini belirtmiştir. Hemşirelerin %55,3ü günde ortalama 1-3 kez PİK uyguladığını, %39,4ü PİK uygulanan hastaların %16-25inde flebit geliştiğini belirtmiştir. Flebite yönelik 15 bilgi ve tutum sorusunun ortalama %49,09u (en az %3,3, en çok %96,7) hemşireler tarafından doğru olarak yanıtlanmıştır. Sonuç: Hemşirelerin çoğunun flebit konusunda bilgilerinin yetersiz olduğu, hemşirelerin bu konuda güncel rehberleri takip etmedikleri ve bilgiye gereksinimleri olduğu kanısına varılmıştır.

Objective: The aim of the study was to determine the knowledge and attitudes of the nurses working in a training and research hospital on phlebitis related to peripheral intravenous catheters (PIC). Material and Methods: This cross-sectional and descriptive study was performed on 269 (77%) volunteer nurses who were on the job for at least one year, by using a questionnaire which was developed by the researchers. The study data were collected between 1-30 April 2012. The questionnaire form included the nurses demographics (age, education degree, units they worked, etc.) and the knowledge and attitude about phlebitis regarding to the current guidelines. SPSS 15.0 for Windows was used for statistical analyses and p<0.05 was accepted as statistical significance. Results: The median age of the nurses was 32 (26-36) years, the median professional experience was 11 (4-16) years, and 77.6% were baccalaureate, 76.2% of the nurses stated that they got the knowledge on phlebitis as a part of nursing education, 25% of them evaluated the education they had taken as inadequate, and 70.3% of the nurses stated that they wanted to get further education on the subject, 55.3% of the nurses also stated that they have been applying 1-3 PIC daily in average and 39.4% of the nurses stated that phlebitis was developed in 16-25% of the patients. Of the 15 knowledge and attitude evaluating questions, 49.09% (min:3.3%, max:96,7%) in average were answered correctly by the nurses. Conclusion: It was concluded that most of the nurses had inadequate knowledge on phlebitis, did not follow up to current guidelines, and needed further information and periodical education.
