| dc.description.abstract | The fate of France's political and constitutional history, which had been rife with instability, was altered with the establishment of the Fifth Republic. However, the transition to a new political system was quite painful. Moreover, system debates continued after the proclamation of the Fifth Republic. Especially the 1962 constitutional amendment process left France faced with a new political crisis.
